Choosing RAM

  comedydave 15:52 12 Feb 03

I currently have 512 SDRAM, in my system, and am thinking about upgrading as it is so cheap now. After looking into this I have seen RDRAM and DDRRAM. Although I know what these initials stand for I do not understand the difference on a practical level. I would apprechiate it if you could outline the differences and give me upgrade advise. I have a P4 1.5G with 512 SDRAM and a 40GB harddrive.

Many Thanks

First things first - are you running W2K or XP? If not, the W9x family have real difficulties with more than 512MB ram, and can actually run slower.

The next issue is what type of ram your motherboard will take.

The simplest option is to ring Crucial, and take their advice. They have an excellent reputation, and will exchange any ram that doesn't work (if they recommended it).

See click here

They will also explain what difference, if any, your various option will make.
