Chkdsk mystery

  carl48 17:18 21 Mar 03

Scandisk on Windows 98 used to find and correct errors but now I have Windows XP Home I find that chkdsk is supposed to do the same. Trouble is, the Windows 'Help' file doesn't tell me how. When I ran chkdsk it said there were errors on my drive but it wouldn't fix them as I hadn't used the /f parameter. Could someone please tell me in words of one syllable what this means and how I use it.

Thanks in hope.

Start > Run > Copy and paste:

cmd /k chkdsk /f

Click "OK"...

Press "Y"...

This will run chkdsk and the F paramenter will tell chkdsk to FIX the problem.

You'll need to restart your computer after pressing "Y".
