Checking Blank Media

Does anyone know if there is a programme that can scan blank media for possible errors before writing?

The reason I ask is that I have just made a full backup of my C drive using Acronis (nine DVDs!)but when I try to verify the backup it tells me it cannot read one of the disks because it possibly has bad sectors. I've tried to fix the disk using BadCopy but no luck, so that's nine useless disks to dispose of.

Once formatted, you can try scan disk, but to be honest, you are far better off with an external USB hdd.

They are under 50 quid now, and you can place all your Acronis backup's there.

I use a larger 500GB model, but the link gives you an idea.

Over time, all media DVD's CD's etc. will become unreadable, and if you have used standard (non-rewritable) DVD's, you have, as you say wasted them.

Thanks for that, I already have an external hard drive and shall copy the image to it in future.
