Check your backups!

I'm sure it's been said before but I thought I'd just re-iterate having had a near miss.

I just tried to restore all my photos from 2002 (including some rather precious ones from Ayers Rock in Australia) which I'd archived to CDR (memorex 40x)prior to a reformat last year. Not even the Plextor CD writer I'd used to burn them would read half of them!

Fortunately I'd also backed them up onto a TDK CDR which could be read and as such I've managed to get them back onto the hard drive. As far as I'm aware none of the other memorex CDRs have failed on me so I think it was just a one off. Therefore:

1. Back up twice - preferably onto different media.

2. Check your backups regularly to avert disaster!
