Check IRQ

I am having a problewm with my new sound card (it won't work at all and I downloaded the latest drivers). I read in the troubleshooting that it may be an IRQ conflit how do I check this and if it is hot do I fix this (I don't think the fault is with the card as I can hear a noise from the speakers then I plug the jack into the card)

Try the card in a different slot.

I tried moving the card that didn't work.

512Mb DDR Ram(2x256)
80GbHDD (2x40)
MoBo= Gigabyte G7-7DX
Windows Me
the card is a creative sound blaster live 5.1

I am already using an nVidia graphics card in an AGP slot
and a modem in a PCI slot

Try moving your sound card as far away from your graphics card as possible e.g. at the bottom of the set of PCI sockets.

What Op system?

Device manager- right click on sound card -properties -resources

Will tell you which IRQ and whether conflict

To change untick box use autosettings then click change settings.

Alot of sound cards use IRQ 7 which may conflict with a parallel printer port change to 5 if possible

Start > All Progs > Accessories > System Tools > System Info > Hardware Resources > IRQs
