  Drpeter 19:47 20 Oct 03

I have received an e-mail offering Microsoft products, such as:-
Windows XP Professional 2002 - retail price: $270.99 ; our price: $50.00 -"We ship by international airmail free of charge."

Has anyone had any experience buying softwrae from CDCheap, Inc.?

If it was from someone you don't know, do what anyone else would do, delete it. Don't waste your money.

seems legal enough click here but read:

All the software is OEM- Meaning that you don't get the box and the manual with your software. All you will receive is the actual software and your unique registration code

No tech support is given by the manufacturer. Please refer to our Frequently Asked Question?s Section for more information. Note that we are not selling any trial, incomplete or academic version of software ? it is original and fully functional.

From the FAQ
How can you sell this software so cheap? It seems to good to be true - is there a catch?
There is no catch - the software versions that we sell are OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) which means you will receive the installation CDs only (they do not come in their original retail packing and do not include the manual). We do guarantee that all programs are the 100% full working retail versions - no demos or academic versions! When you order, you will receive all materials required for a complete installation - or your money back! Why pay hundreds dollars more when you can get exactly the same but cheaper? You don't have to pay that much for the fancy box and manuals.

This software is recognised as a backup software.

This is pirate software! See the thread mentioned above in Consumer watch

"This software is recognised as a backup software"
This is the statement used to get around the fact its pirate.

You get a copy of the software on CD-R and no CD key or license (usually).

The idea is supposed to be that if you buy a PC with bundled software but no CDs or have (ahem) "lost" your CD for Office XP, Windows XP, Paint Shop Pro, Norton Anti Virus Corporate Edition etc then you can purchase a (ahem) "backup" copy of the CD to use with the CD key you downloaded from the Internet (sorry thats the original CD key from the case of the "lost" CD)

This is an attempt to get round the fact its pirate.

Of course theres nothing to stop them taking your money and sending you

a) Nothing

b) a Blank CD

c) a CD-R with the software you ordered

d) a CD-R with the software you ordered plus a bonus virus or 3

e) a CD-R with any old software on it
