Charging iPhone from USB mains adapter

The mains charger for an iPhone is a hefty £25.00! To save moving my charger around the house from socket to socket, can I simply use a mains charger from another device? I have a mains USB adapter/charger for a Samsung camera and one for a Garmin satnav, they should all be the same shouldn't they?

They should be,but they are not.

The iphone uses the data lines on the usb connector to determine whether it's an approved device or not.

It's Steve Jobs way of making sure you pay through the nose for everything that has the Apple logo!
