What op system on the new tower? still xp?

the rule is

one antivirus (more will clash)

one software firewall (hardware in router) xp needs a third party firewall as is only incomming.

as much antimalware as you wish.

F secure is good enough back it up with spywareblaster as a blocker and the free malwarebytes and you shouldn't have any trouble.

As it's a new tower it will have Win 8.1, so firewall is good enough. Avast free as av, Malwarebytes pro (paid for version), Spywareblaster free and you should be good to go. Most probably you will have pre-installed programs with desktop icons showing. So long as you don't click on these icons you can remove them in programs & features via the control panel and no need to use third party removal programs. Usually Norton or McAfee. Check if you will need the others, such as DVD player/burner, webcam, etc.
