Changing menu bar colours in XP

This may seem like a stupid question but how do you change the colour of the background that surrounds menu options and toolbars in Windows XP? Mine have always been white but they have suddenly turned grey and I cannot seem to change it back. I have been through all the options in the advanced screen set up in display properties but none of the options appears to adjust the part of the window I want.
Any ideas?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "white",but if nothing in your display properties work why not try a third party app like click here

Thanks for the responses but I think I am just being little dim on this as I am now doubting whether the colour is correct and it is just that my relatively new monitor displays colours differently from my old one.
Window Blinds looks interesting though so I am have more of a look at that.
