I have just bought a new sata hard drive I have a existing ide drive as my boot drive with operating sytem and programs, is there a simple way of transfering all system and data to the new hard drive so I could dispense with the ide drive??

A simple way is to use an imaging program such as Ghost or TrueImage - I don't know how well these work with SATA drives though.

Often disk manufacturers will provide a utility that does this, but again I don't know about SATA drives.
