Change Windows XP user name

  prycey 13:01 25 Jan 06

Hi, I recently got a new latop but the username says I'm called Steve!

C:\Documents and Settings\Steve

It also says my name is Steve in ctrl+alt+del

Is there anyway to change the "Steve" bit to something else?

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion.In the right pane, double click RegisteredOwner and change the Value data.

are you sure the hard drive is new or the machine is not a grade b returns?

If you rename a user you only change the title of 'Steve's Documents' etc to the new name, but not the underlying setup. This will still show 'Steve'. I believe that the only way is to create a new user at administrator level, with your own name, and then delete 'Steve' as a user.

I believe that there was another thread on this subject, recently.

hmm, ok. thans guys.

i think Steve is the name of the geezer who loaded all of the software on the laptop before it was sent to me
