Hi
I have a BT1800HG/2Wire ADSL Router.
Can anyone tell me if you can change the name that you see when you search for available networks?
I my router is set to a default setting, but I would like to personalize it

hi bsod666,
yes ....go into the router settings and change the ssid to anything you like .Dave

You may also be able to hide the SSID (so that others don't readily see your router). Most routers have a setting to achive this. It is only a marginal security benefit, but still worth doing.

Whilst you are at it, you might also like to set other security settings on the router:

1. Change the router's password

2. Disable IPSEC NAT-T Pass-through

3. Block ICMP Ping

4. If it is a wireless router:
- enable encryption (using WPA-PSK if supported)
You'll also need to set-up the same on the
wireless devices (PCs)
- set-up MAC address filtering for any wireless
devices)

Note that some of these may already be set to the correct values by default.
