I would like to change my Seagate ST340015A 40 GB hard drive for one about 200 GB which I could fit straight in as a replacement. Can anyone suggest a hard drive that would suitable?

Sugest leaving your 40 gig in with your os on and programs and slave a bigger drive to it.

It could be that your motherboard may not support a 200GB harddrive, especially as it is just running a 40GB at the mo.

You could list your computer specifications here. That may show if you could take that harddrive.

Have you got USB2.0 sockets on your computer. If you have, you may consider an external hard drive to give you more space.

motherboard is nForce4-A939 CPU is 1.8 Gh AMD Athlon 64 I have a Maxtor 6Y120M0 as the main drive. The 40 GB is the slave. I would like to upgrade it for more storage

I have a Samsung 250MB drive in a caddy, reasonably cheap, good specs and has not let me down.

As long as you are running XP SP2 XP will be able to see a 200G drive.

Have run lots of different drives in various computers they are all pretty much the same.
Go for one of the big names for a guarantee and good support.

Western Digital, Maxtor or Seagate.
