cdrom and cdrw units not working.

All of a sudden both my dvd and cdrw units in system properties are showing the yellow queery mark.

In properties in both units it shows as drivers not installed (Both been working fine for months)

Have uninstalled both units and told find new h/ware in control panel to find them which it does, but then comes back with unable to reinstall.

As dvd and cdrw's don't have seperate drivers as such, has anyone else had this prob and found the solution.

System is running on xp pro.

Many thanks for any help.

Forgot to mention both drives appear ok in bios and in post on boot up.

Normally the only drivers used by CD/DVD-ROM drives and rewriters are the generic Windows version.

Whether XP is different I don't know, but it might be worth uninstalling both drives and letting XP reinstall them. If the driver are corrupted this should correct the situation.
