running XP, however Device Manager won't show the cd or dvd I've installed, nor will they show up on My Computer. Already tried disconecting and reconnecting.

Do they show in Disk management?

Start, 'Right' click on my computer and select manage, from the new dialogue box that pops up select 'disk management'.

Hello De Marcus,
no, they don't show up in disk management.

Check the IDE cable is installed properly , if it is an older cable without the notch to ensure correct fitting make sure the red line on the edge of the cable is facing you on both drives , try changing the IDE ribbon cable to eliminate that problem , check the bios to see if the motherboard recognises them , make sure power cables are not connected to anything else that will consume large amounts of power ( powerful graphics card ), also check in the bios that the IDE channel you are connecting to is enabled .

Checked all tis but to no avail.

Replace the IDE cable.
