CD-RW read only files

Have tried to delete a file from a CD-RW disk by clicking on Properties and removing the tick from the read only box. This is not working for me - what am I doing wrong?

Are you trying to use the disk as you would a floppy or hard drive? This can be done using the special formatting utilities supplied with Nero and the like, but otherwise you would use the disk as a rewriteable store - ie you write the files to the disk, when you want to add or delete some then you compile a complete new list of files (in Nero or whatever) and overwrite the entire compilation that exists on the disk at the time. Although files on a CD-R/RW are read only, when you want to use one you can copy it to your hard drive and amend its' properties.

If the CD/RW has been formatted using (say) InCD then it can be used like a very large floppy disk. To delete files use Windows Explorer (or Powerdesk if installed) and delete the file exactly the same as if it was a floppy disk. If it hasn't been formatted then you would need to use the same programme the file was burnt to the CD/RW to delete it. For example, Neroburn. Open Nero and select the file you want to delete. Click on Delete but you will then have to "burn" the disk again to complete the deletion.
