CD RW and CD player trouble

  coolteentom 17:43 07 May 03

I bought an LG CD-RW about 1 year ago which worked perfectly with my Windows 98 SE computer...
but then I got a virus and had to re-install back
to Windows 98 FIRST EDITION...

I have deleted the virus, but now, whenever
I try and open ANY kind of CD-burning software,
or even just CD-playing software - including the
Roxio CD creator which I got with the drive - the
computer freezes, which means I can't burn or
even listen to any CD that I put in the computer,
no matter what software I have...

Can anyone help?

Thanks , tom

Upgrade to 98SE seems to be the cure - as you have stated that it worked fine on that OS. There is a big difference between 98 and 98SE.

Also make sure you installed the Motherboard drivers for your IDE controllers.

Did you Fdisk your drive if not it may have put the virus into the MBR. To make shure you have a clean MBR start with Win98 boot disc and at A:\> type FDISK/MBR to restore the MBR you will not see anything happen very unlikely any way, and it will not harm your setup etc.
