Check that the cable is firmly seated at both ends - drives and motherboard. Disconnect then reconnect them

ive already tried that umpteen times but to no avail, they are both definately all wired up.

Does it work with just the DVD rom?
Are they on the same IDE cable?
Does the BIOS read the 2 drives?

Do they show up in Device Manager. If you don't know how to do that post your version of Windows.
