Any advise on a CD ROM drive is installed but it is not visable on the computer. I went into the BIOS setup and it is not recognised there either.

Check the jumpers on the drive; there may be a conflict.

Is it on the primary or secondary IDE cables? Move from one to another.

Good idea Diodorus Siculus, but sadly it did not work. The hard drive is in IDE1 connection and the CD ROM drive is in IDE2 connection on the motherboard. The CD ROM drive jumper was set to master. I put it to slave and restarted the computer. It still does not recognise the CD ROM and the start up screen says
Primary hard drive failure
Primary hard drive failure
it says it twice but windows still comes up. the hard drive has three single pins to set the jumper, which has no jumper. Could that be the fault?? Is it possible to get a single jumper.
I appreciate any other ideas you have. Thanks.
