Cd-rom drive spits out cd-r.

Went to a friends with the intention of putting AV and Firewall on their 98SE PC and also spybot, ad-aware and spyware blaster. Their cd-rom just spat out the cd-r I'd took with the programs on it. Eventually I got some to work after 10 attempts of inserting the cd. Could it just be a case of needing a lens cleaner for the cd-rom drive, they say they've had no problems before so it could be the media I used. Any ideas?

..If fimilar with PC hardware open the PC and remove the IDE cable from the back of the CD-ROM, powerup and put a CD in the drive, if the problem still happens then its a hardware fault, if it does not eject then it will be software within Windows causing this.
