CD-Rom drive

I have a cd-r of photos which I tried to run on my mate's pc. Whilst looking at the pictures the pc crashed and Unfortunately now, the cd won't run in the driue; if I click on the cd icon, nothing would happen. I can't even run a music cd in the drive. Any ideas why this has happened?

Check in Device Manager first for any exclamation marks alongside your CD-ROM.

If it comes up OK, try Removing the drive, rebooting and letting Windows reinstall it and its basic Windows driver.

I did check Device Manager; the drive was working properly.

Do I have to physically remove the drive from the pc? How do I pick up the Windows driver? Would that happen once I reboot? It is Windows XP btw
