CD ROM Drawer will not stay closed

Out of the blue my CD Rom/DVD drawer does not want to stay closed when it is empty. With a CD in the drawer it works OK but when empty, soon after closing it you can see the laser light being activated and then the drawer just opens automatically.
I have tried a lens cleaner to no effect.
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi, run CCleaner, probably a fragment of something previously used is lurking!!

Thanks Technotiger
I have already tried all my clean-up utilities including CCleaner.

Is there a exclamation mark against it in Device Manager. In Device Manager highlight the drive and in Properties click on update driver.

No exclamation marks to be seen.
Could this be a hardware issue?

Check the leads and cables first for firmness and then Uninstall the drive in Device Manager and reboot.

Windows will Find New Hardware and reinstall the basic CDROM driver (all that is required).

It might also be a sticking eject button.

Thanks Stuartli - I think you have hit the nail on the head with your sticking eject button theory. Certainly using the extreme RH end of the button as opposed to the LH end has improved matters no end.
That and a dribble of WD40!
I shall have a rummage about inside the case when I get a bit of time.
Thanks again to both you and Technotiger for your input

Glad it seems to be sorted - thanks for the feedback.
