cd rom causes the blue screen of death

i have just installed works 2003 on m.e.
now when i insert a cd i get blue screen saying
error 0028:6f736f72 invxd---
0028:c182f590 in vxd scsi1hlp (03)+ 00000510
this is jargon to me what do i do reformat and start again. help i am at my wits end and microsoft havent answered my emails, even though i am entitled to support

Did you close down all running programmes before you installed it.

yes i closed other programs by selective start up. if i uninstall works do you think my cd rom will be back in use.

yes it is a compaq presario 5471. i clicked your click here but didnt get anything what do i need. i have telephoned microsoft and have waited 25 minutes in a queue and was then cut off.

The page rumblefish is trying to show you is accessible by using the "click here" sign and picking home tab.

Now tick on the microsoft knowledge base and type the number 281252 as rumblefish has said. This will take you to the link.

Trust microshaft to make it difficult.

when i read the prob may be with compaq i telephoned them and all i had to do was change the file scsi1hlp.vxd to scsi1hlp.old , ITS A MIRACLE NOT REFORMAT NEEDED, microsoft had me doing somersaults
