Do you need a CD/DVD marker pen to write on CD-R disks, or would a normal permanent marker suffice?

Cheers, dagwoood.

invest in a pack of cd marker pens, about a fiver and they last forever ;-)

i have had mine for about two years and all four pens are still ok.

tdk cd-r pen four pack, 1 black, 1 blue, 1 red & 1 green.

Thanks for the input guys.

Now I don't know whether to go the cheap and cheerful route or go for longevity :0)

Cheers, dagwoood.

I got a pack of 4 different colours from tesco £1.99 I think. "tdk cd/dvd pen"

Thanks for that.

dagwoood.

You should always use the proper CD disk marking pens of the type mentioned by usbuser - most CD media manufacturers offer them, but the Tesco price is very competitive for the TDK pack.

Don't use ordinary solvent based marker pens.

The sensitive layer of both CDs and DVDs is nearer the top surface than the bottom and the solvent in the pen could penetrate the top of the sandwich of the disc and cause problems. Unlikely but, it is a possibility.

Now I am a bit worried. Sometime ago I was advised to get some 'Sharpie' Pens made by Sanford's, American. I found a cheap source.

Does anyone know if they are solvent based or what?

Don't worry too much. I only stated that it's a possibility.

To check if they're solvent based or not, have a sniff of trhem. If they smell as if you could get "high" in them, they're solvent based;-)
