CD Player does not recognise a disk in tray

I burn my own data and audio cd's but when placed in the tray I always get the message to put a CD in the tray.Generally commercial CD'S are okay, now and then the occasional hick-up.I am running Windows ME and I have a Combi unit of CD /DVD Player I am told that my drivers are up to date, without going"On-Line",so I am thjinking it is a software problem

Sounds very much like a faulty drive. When they start to go, burned CDs are usually the first to fail to read.

My computer icon and has your drive changed from a empty icon to one saying Audio CD, or you could try a installation Cd. Stop the installation and se if its recognised in the My Computer CD Rom icon as xxx what ever you drive is.

i have found the same problem with different brands. Try a new brand and see if that helps

Henry Two, if you use the drive a lot then it may just need cleaning.
