CD/ DVD drive problem

I have a Packard Bell Easynote R1910 on XP and the CD/ DVD drive doesn't always show up under my computer. When it doesn't, it doesn't play CDs either. Once it has refused to open as well.

The drive is a Liteon SOSW-833S DVD±RW.

I have tried searching for any updates to the firmware but found none althought the Packard Bel site seems to indicate that an update is available.

Any ideas?

Clumsy workaround you could download Imgburn freebie If it sees your drive click Tools>drive >firmware it will tell you what version you are and search for updates for your burner. I'm sure there are easier ways but at least you will have a decent burner installed
