CD Drive Temperamental

  Lady Lara 17:29 18 Mar 05

CD RW Drive has decided to sometimes not recognise an cd has been inserted. Sometimes it does and will then play the cd. It will not burn to one though and stops saying i must slow burn speed (am using windows media player)

I have tried to update the driver but one i have is the best - apparently.

Could it be the WMP software or do you reckon it's the drive. Have tried to update to WMP 10 but it seems to not want to let me do that

Try a laser cleaner disk for starters.
but lasers do fail sooner or later.

They die sooner rather than later.

If the cleaner doesn't work - or it only works for a short while time for a new drive.

They aren't difficult to fit and start at barely £10. ebven a dual layer DVD drive can be picked up for not much over £30. Replace rather than repair is the best economic option.
