CD drive not recognised in Win ME on new computer

I have just assembled an AMD Athlon 64 3200 AM2 / Abit motherboard kit with a new case etc. to replace my old computer. My version of Windows XP is an upgrade so I used a boot floppy to install an old copy of Windows ME first. The installation went smoothly apart from a couple of blue screens (no idea what they said, apart from "child devices"?) towards the end of the process. I got past them by turning off & rebooting. The CD drive is recognised by the BIOS & I used it to install ME but now that ME is installed the CD drive is not recognised and I cannot install my XP upgrade.

Any ideas - thank you!

Fisrt check the drive is recognised in BIOS and the secondary IDE controller is Enabled. Set first boot device to floppy second to CD third to HDD and retry.

or

Make a ME boot disk or download one from click here

It will contain generic drivers to run the CD

Boot from the floppy and select with CDrom support then run your XP CD
