Using Windows XP Prof' OS when backing up files from "MY DOCUMENTS" to a CD on the "D" drive the file attributes automatically change from "Archive" to "Read Only".When I try to change the file attributes back to "Archive" on the CD I get an "Error applying attributes" pop-up.How can I rectify this plse?

You can't. All files on a CD are Read Only because you can't edit a file on a CD.

I don't think you can - by their very nature CDs are read only.

If you need to restore the backed up files, you will have to copy them back to your HD and then change the file attributes.

HTH.
