Card reader always showing write protected

I have a card reader which will not let me delete any files, it always shows write protected even when other reader lets me.

What can I do?

Is this an external or internal one

If it is external, have you checked to make sure there isn't a switch on the reader that "Locks" the read/write function?

It is an internal.

I think the SD card bay is at fault.

I have 3 different card readers on 3 different machines. The card from my GF's mobile phone cannot be read/written to on my daughters desktop, but can on my own desktop although both PC's have the exact same make/model of internal readers. The laptop has its own card reader internal(though only able to read 3 types of card, whereas the desktops readers can utilise upto 52 different types of card)and can also read/write to the microSD card from the phone, but can require the card inserting/removing a few times before it eventually ceases throwing up the "write protected" message.
