I have a card reader installed on my xp system, I just bought a smart media card & when I put it in it doesnt read it, the computer detects the drives are there. So is the card reader just bollixed.

If this is a stupid question just ignore it, does your card reader read SmartMedia cards?

Is the Smartmedia ok in your camera? Like anything else they can be faulty.

Two things to try:-

- Make sure you have the card in the correct way up. On the card reader at work (also smartmedia) you could physically put the card in both ways but it would only read it if the chip was face down.

- Check to see if the card you have bought is formatted for use.

Are there any pictures on the card? In Control Panel, look for'devices with removable storage', 'Removable Disk (F:)', double click until you get to your pictures.

That should read in 'My Computer', not control panel.

Ive now got it working by downloading drivers from ecs website, although it wasn't very clear that they were for the card reader.
