Can't write CD R

  rawprawn 08:20 15 Jan 08

My friend running Vista is unable to write to CD R, he gets a message it needs to be Formatted and then of course it's finished. There is no apparent problem writting to CD RW.
Any ideas?

First off, try a different brand of disk; that can make a difference.

Otherwise, what software is being used?

click here or DeepBurner which is pretty good alternative to the standard XP option.

has it written to cdr before?,possibly firmware update for drive if not.

He is using WMP to burn, no he hasn't written before, he has just done an upgrade from XP to Vista.

I believe he has tried more than one make of disc, in the meantime I have emailed him the Deep Burner link, thank you.
But I wondered if when he upgraded did a file become corrupt, and if so would sfc cure it

goto my computr right click the cd drive check properties that it still has the relevant tick in place in the recording tab to enable writing.

some poor registry optimisers disable this option.

OK thanks all, I will pass all this on. I will try and let you know what happens, but it may be a few days.
