Can't update Licences for music in media player

  Kirbster 22:43 21 May 03

I'm using Media Player 9 on XP.

After purchasing a new computer and copying across the
existing files from my old computer, I discovered that,
in Media Player, I could no longer play music copied from
audio CD's onto my old computer.

I tried the Microsoft 'Windows Media Personal License
Migration Service' on the net several times but I kept
receiving the message: 'Sorry, we are unable to issue a
license to you at this time. Please try later.'

I also downloaded and ran the 'Personal License Update
Wizard for Windows Media Player'. After running it, it
told me that 'the licenses for the protected content you
copied from your audio CD's are updated'. My music is
still inaccessible however. If I try to play a track, the
file opens, closes again immediately, opens my net
connection and takes me to the 'Windows Media Personal
License Migration Service' site again.

Back to Square One!

Can anyone offer any advice or a solution?

from media player help:

You cannot copy and share licenses among different computers. If you copy a licensed file to another computer or give a copy of the file to another person, you or the other person will need to acquire a new license for that computer. This process starts automatically when you play the file on the new computer.

To restore your licenses
On the Tools menu, click License Management.
If required, insert the floppy disk on which your licenses are stored.
Select the location of the backup copies of your licenses, and then click OK.
In the License Management dialog box, click Restore Now.
Follow the instructions on your screen.

An Internet connection is required to restore your licenses. You can only restore your licenses a limited number of times.
