can't uninstall Win 98

  superfluke 19:43 06 Feb 06

Just upgraded my old system with new motherboard bundle plus Seagate 40G h/drive and used my previous Win 98 as operating system. Now I'd like to change to XP but 98 says it cannot unistall. Is there a solution or have I ruined a brand new drive?
Any help would be much appreciated.

XP installation will do it for you.

Not clear how far you got with the new HD?
Did you manage to make it run with Win98 on the new motherboard?

If you did and you now want to change the OS to XP, you would be better starting back at the poit when you installed 98. i.e. a fresh installation formatting the HD first.

All you need do to remove 98 is start with win98 boot disc. Create one first from Start\Control Panel\Add Remove. Start computer with boot disc at A:\> type Format C:

Then start with XP disc to load it.

PS your Bios should be set to boot from CD as first boot device the Hard Drive as second boot device

Just to backup what woodchip and Diemmess have said.
I did this this afternoon, granted i was putting windows 98 back on, but it worked for me.
