hey

i have a laptop which displays the following....

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or currupt:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original CD-ROM
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair

I havnt got any discs with this laptop though, i paid someone last yr to sort it which he did with a disc of his own, am a complete noob on pcs so please forgive me.

thanks

click here shows some ideas and you can use any copy of XP if you can borrow one.

Sorry davywc but without a windows disk I don't think you will be able to sort it.
Try asking your friends/workmates someone is bound to have one. It has to be the same as what you have IE if you have XP Home it must be an XP Home disk if its XP Pro you have it must be an XP Pro disk.
