Can't sign into anything that requires a password

I've had this problem ever since first getting an internet connection to my new house:
I get a perfect internet connection, can download things at blistering speed, browse any website-but anytime I try to log into a site, I keep getting instantly bounced back to the log-in page. I get a different message when I type an incorrect password-that's always recognised as incorrect.
But when I type the correct one, nothing happens.
This is also a problem with programs like Messenger and I'm at a total loss.
And I'm an internet freak.
I can't live without my Emails, Facebook or Messenger!! :-(

Sorry, forgot to mention-I'm using Firefox (I installed it when I had the same problem with IE,but had the exact same issue)

And I've got my options set to accept all cookies...

It could be a firewall problem, try temporarily disabling your firewall and see if you can sign in, the reason I say that is that it might be blocking the https connection when you first sign in.

Have you got "Stealther" installed in Firefox, if so turn it off.
