Can't shut down

I have recently rebuilt using barebones now when I try shutting down through the normal routine it just restarts have to press button at the right time, am running XP Pro SP2

try clicking 'start/control panel/system/advanced/start up and recovery/settings' and untick 'automatically restart' now instrad of a restart you should see an error displayed instead. what is it please? or look it up by typing it into the search box click here

start the computer up in safe mode (keep tapping F8 when you switch on and select it from the list)

once in safe mode click start/turn off and see it it shuts down......maybe.

if it shuts down ok when in safe mode then this i think should let you know if its driver or software related maybe.
