On my sons computer he can receive email but cannot send mail. He is usin Windows 98 SE with Internet Explorer. He goes online with Freeserve.
Can anyone help.

Can you give us a few more details on this one? When you say he can't send emails is he getting an error message of any kind?

I presume that he is using Freeserve to dial up to the internet as well as using a Freeserve email account?

Check the smtp settings to make sure they've not changed.

settings for freeserve are as follows:

To send pop.freeserve.net

to receive smtp.freeserve.net

Also check the password

Thanks Lozzy and Radfordin for some unknown reason the pop and smtp settings were wrong. Rectified and working ok.

Ihave just installed a Maxtor SATA 160GB hard drive onto a new system (Asus A7V600 Mobo)on Windows XP Pro. Everything works fine for about a week then the system will not boot up.
It always says "It did not shut down correctly"
and gives a choice of starting NORMAL-SAFE MODE-and others. Non of these work and the system just reboots after a pause and does this time after time. What causes this and is there any way to recover the system in Serial ATA without a complete reformat.
