Can't save Jpegs to DVD

Am I being really dense? Bought DVD-Rs to save all my precious photos on, but PC will not save to them. When I put the DVD in it instantly asks for a valid CD to be inserted. When I check the properties of the DVD via the D-drive it says that the disk has no free space. I can write to CD-R no problem but would need about ten of them for all the photos! My daughter tells me they can be saved on DVD if converted to data - no clue what she is talking about, checked out saving as another file format but nothing jumped out at me. I am probably being utterly stupid but if anyone can enlighten me either way I'd be really grateful...

Is your drive definetly a DVD Writer? What are you using to burn your disks?

XP can't burn natively to DVD.
You need a third-party package, this one's pretty good; click here

"My daughter tells me they can be saved on DVD if converted to data"

jpgs are already data. Just data files like any other data files.

I think brundle has the answer spot-on - and I use Ashampoo free too - it's excellent.

Unless, of course that tullie is correct, and you don't have a DVD writer!!

Just thought it might not be because its telling Plumpie for a valid CD.

"When I check the properties of the DVD via the D-drive it says that the disk has no free space."

If it's only a CD drive it won't detect a DVD disc at all.

1. DVD burner drive
2. Third party DVD burn program-Xp wont do it on its own- not so sure about Vista either.
This is a good free one that I use
