Can't safely remove hardware

Anyone any idea why, all of a sudden, when I select the 'safely remove hardware' option from the system tray, it tells me the device cannot be stopped right now?

There's nothing at all open and the last time I used it, there were no problems with it.

Thanks

If its a USB drive, I have the same problem with one of mine. All I end up doing is leaving it in until I shut down. One of these days i'll take the time to back it up and format it.

Yes, it's a USB and no, nothing was running at the time. However, having shut down, gone shopping and returned, it's now fine!

Thanks
