Can't recognise CD drives?

Just a quick question - I'm sure there's an easy answer.

My PC all of a sudden won't recognise my CD & DVD drives. All that is listed in windows explorer is my hard rive and floppy.

Any ideas?

When you boot up the computer does is say either:

Found CDROM: [CD-ROM Drive Name/model no.]
or
Secondary Master/Slave: [CD-ROM Drive Name/model no.]?

They are recognised in the boot up sequence. However, there seem to both have conflicts in the device manager.

It says this under properties in the device manager:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
