Can't reach Internet Explorer Server

  Tone 15:47 12 Sep 04

Following a crash, when I log onto Internet Explorer I get the messages: "This page cannot be displayed" and "Cannot find server". Clicking on "Mail" I can use Outlook Express normally but cannot access the web by clicking links within e-mails. I have tried to fix this via my ISP telephone helpline but now I cannot get through to them.
I am running Windows 98SE and have tried uninstalling Internet Explorer(6)and reinstalling but without success. Has anybody any suggestions? I am accessing the web at the moment via my wife's internet connection.

If you are running a firewall, try disabling it temporarily and see if you access the net. If you can it will be in your settings for the firewall.

Thanks for this Valvegrid but I have already tried this and a host of other measures described in the 21 similar threads I found in the Helproom database. My guess is that it may be due to spyware but so far I have not been able to resuscitate my server connection with Spybot. I have however, managed to upload 30 pictures to the ACDSee website from Outlook Express. Weird. Any other suggestions?
