Can't load XP. BSOD

Trying to load XP onto a pals laptop that has Vista installed. Put CD in and boot from it but after about 1 min of loading it goes into BSOD. Is there a way of reformatting the disk and then loading?

I could remove the HD and connect it via USB to my PC and format it that way perhaps?
Any thoughts?

I think this may be happening as there are no device drivers for the laptop's motherboard available on the XP CD.

What's the make & model of the laptop? Check the manufacturer's site for XP drivers. Let us know if you need help with this. G

rdave13, that's similar to what I was going to suggest if there are XP drivers available. G

Crossbow (hello again & thanks) and Rdave. Went into BIOS and changed SATA setting to 'compatability' and lo and behold wev'e cracked it. Now formatting the HD and should be OK to continue loading XP after that. Brilliant buggers!
Thanks again.
