Can't get Mozilla Firefox to work

After reading the reviews posted in Consumer Watch by FE, i thought i'd give this thing a whirl. so i downloaded it off: click here

installed it.

but when i type in an URL, a error message appearsa: "Alert! The connection was refused when attempting to contact www."

i am doing something wrong? dont know if you have to pay for it or register it.

i'm working for a University, so maybe there is some blocking of it?

basically, i dont know. so any help would be great. thanks.

No registration or payment is needed.

Your IT department may be preventing the use of any browser/software that is not approved of by them.

i thought that. but it install ok becuase i have admin rights on my machine.

i can open html files that are on my pc, but not URLs.

There's probably a proxy server in the way..

If IE works the check out the connection settings in the Tools>Internet Options>Connections>Lan Settings.

If there are any details in there then copy them to the Tools>Options>General>Connection Settings in FireFox.

How do you connect to the Internet - do you go through a proxy?

Firefox sets itself up to connect directly to the internet, which your machine might not be set up to do.

Check your connections in Internet Explorer, what does it say in there?
