Can't get external TV display to work when using Lenovo G500 laptop - "out of range"

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with exporting the display from my new Lenovo G500 laptop to my Thomson LCD TV. I'm using a VGA cable and stereo jack rather than an HDMI but when I plug the VGA cable in to the laptop its screen immediately goes black, and the TV on the VGA setting just says 'out of range'.

I've read on other forums that this usually indicates a resolution issue, however whichever resolution I run the laptop at the error message on the TV still comes up.

Does anybody have any advice on this issue? Would a HDMI cable give similar issues?

Any help would be massively appreciated!

Thank you,

Bring up the display settings and select the second monitor setting and change the resolution on that.
