Hi all, sorry but me again, not my weekend it seems. I have dual boot Win7 & XP. Was working fine until I had a problem with Win7 which is now resolved. I can boot from either OK, they both work. If I have them both connected I get the choice of which to use Win7 wont work if the XP drive plugged in but XP will work if both plugged in. I am trying to use BCD to resolve this but need help once more.

Windows 7 need to be on the first drive c: (drive 0)

Xp on the second drive (drive 1)

For Windows XP to boot in a dual-boot scenario the files ntldr, ntdetect.com and boot.ini must be placed on active system partition i.e. the root of your windows 7

XP can see Win7 but Win7 cannot see XP drive so I cant add XP drive in BCD as I can only boot from one or the other. For Win7 to work I have to disconnect the XP drive then BCD can't see it.

Think I will have a look in the registry and see if I can work it out.

I get a choice on the screen to boot from XP or Win7. XP will boot OK but Win7 says system32\hal.dll is missing.Win7 will boot Ok if the XP drive is not connected.
