Can't find DVD ROM drive on laptop

I have an IBM ThinkPad 570E with a DVD ROM drive which was working perfectly OK a couple of days ago. Now, although the D: drive icon is still there, it keeps coming up with drive not accessible. I've tried cleaning the head and tried different CDs but sill get the same error. Is it likely to be broken?

Cheers.

try restarting the computer and see if that helps or

uninstalling it from control panel/system device manager

restart the computer and windows should pick it up again and reinstall it again.

Tried uninstalling and restarting - still comes up with D: is not accessible. I also tried updating the driver from Properties.

For some reason the Device Manager says its a CD ROM rather than a DVD ROM Drive. Should that matter?
