hi, my flatmate has had to do a fresh install of his computer, but for some reason his audio drivers haven't installed.

his mobo is an asus k8v-mx.

they can't be found on his recovery disc, and after checking the asus site they had audio drivers for the k8v-mx, but after downloading them we found that for some reason they don't work/can't be installed.

does anyone have any ideas on how to install his audio properly?

thanks

Oh yes there is.;-)

Go to control panel > system > device manager and delete anything with a yellow exclamation mark. Reboot, does it find new audio? If it does point windows to the driver.

Where they any yellow exclamation marks? If so when rebooted did it find audio device?

Have you downloaded the correct audio driver. One is for linux and the other for windows. click here

there was no exclamation mark on the audio device, but a yellow question mark. couldn't be deleted, but tried uninstall and what happened was the next time he looked at the device manager bit the yellow ? was back again.

still the driver package thing he downloaded from asus website didn't work, and also the windows update driver thing failed too.

the audio driver thing from asus should be the correct one, it was the only audio driver for his motherboard on the asus site.

There is an exclamation mark. A really small one on the question mark.

If it will not delete, then pick the update driver option, see if that will work.

They are 2 audio drivers at asus. Also have you checked that audio is enabled in the bios, it will be in your manual.

Hi, Where were the drivers downloaded to off the internet?. I find it best to download to 'Desktop', Double click the icon and when the drivers are installed delete from the desktop. Cheers, Bill.L.

The SoundMAX512015150 drivers are in a compressed 27Mb folder and will need to be unzipped when downloaded.

It may be worth checking the bios. Look under advanced > onboard devices configuration > omboard AC97 configuration. Make sure it is set to enabled. F10 to save and exit, if it was not set.
