A month ago I boght a second hand p.c. I need to use the REGISTRY but when I type in RUN:.....I get a message "The administrator has disable the registry". Apparently I'm the adm because when I switch the p.c. I don't see any other account. Windows appears straight away.

Any idea what can I do?..Thanks.

Which OS?

1. Start > Run.
2. %windir%\system32\gpeditmsc
3. Navigate to: User Config\Admin Templates\system\Prevent Access to Registry Editing Tools
4. Change to > Not Configured

or
open Notepad and copy and paste this to notepad EXACTLY as shown here:

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000

Save it as unlockreg.reg

Once saved, double click Unlockreg.reg and merge the file to your Registry.

Forgive me if I'm too simplistic....
In Start > Run, type in REGEDIT (lower case will do) and then OK.

might one ask why you beleive you need TO go and change something in the Registry? changing items in that section carries inherant risks

has it got an infection on it or items on it that really ought not to be on it

will Windows update validating tool not work?

may be if you explain what the apparent problem is one might be able to offer more appropriate help? sounds as though it may be malfunctioning ?

The problem is , it was a second hand PC boght in a PC fair. These guys buy them from Cias so usually there is an Admin and I couldn,t take that role.

The only way to solve the problem was to re-install Windows using another Cd I had.
