i can't delete this file. when i try i get the message "unable to delete file or folder, it is being used by another person or program", even though as far as i can tell it isn't.

anyone help please ?

Try deleting in Safe Mode. Restart and keep tapping the F8 key just before the Windows screen appears. Select Safe Mode from the menu that should appear.

Try renaming it - get rid of the current extension and replace it with something like old. eg from movie.mpeg to movie.old

The reason it cannot be deleted is that it is being previewed by Windows.

Alternatively, create another file beside it in the folder, select both and then choose delete.

i tried the safe mode suggestion but i got the same result.

i selected it and the file next to it and this time it worked.
thanks Diodorus Siculus.

25paul - it's because of the preview option using having the file in use.
